Two reports to be released this month
-City of Santa Cruz: Action Climate Plan
-County of Santa Cruz: GHG emissions from county govt operations
As these become public, I would like to work with a group of people to analyze the numbers, compare the plans to other cities and the science and gage the urgency. If the published reports are good and check out, let's support them. If the reports lack data or based on older science or have insufficient initiatives to reduce GHG, then lets report that too. Our work should be in writing; and compare SC to other cities. Read Moving Cooler or ICLEI or 10x10, which is only 1 month old and really catching on in the UK.
Most of the people I've spoken with at City or County are actually pretty eager to do a good job and the right way. But there isn't enough staff, so I would like to do this in a constructive way. If you would like to help out, please drop me a line.

-We have window from now through Copenhagen, thats 64 days. If there is no government action at Copenhagen, or it is insufficient, who loses? The purpose of Oct 24 and 350.org (or 10x10) or many others is to get citizens to take action and impress upon 'leaders' to need to move on this.
I do not see Climate Change in anyway as a political issue, subject to negotiation or delays or even 2nd chances. Is everyone waiting for VC industry to create an industry and market?
One of the clearest explanations of the RISK we face is Here . Look at the colored wheels, depicting the risk (or probability) of various temperatures changes: if we doing nothing vs. aggressive action, now.
