What kind of events for October 24?   Here's what's happening in Denver.
It can be anything you like, potlucks, garden walk, religious service, teach-in.

Please keep 2-4 pm open for joint activity.

Local Developments today  October 1, 2009

-RTC meeting, several high school students spoke of need for safer paths to school, such as Rail to Trail;  agree to help with 350.   I also alerted the RTC commission to October 24 and need to check CO2 emissions

-met with Maureen McCarty of State Senator  Joseph Simitian's office.

-met with Rachel Anne Goodman of Assemblyman Bill Monning's office.

-met with and spoke at length with Melodye Serino of County of Santa Cruz Public Works Department Recycling and what we can do together; lots of good things (more to come).

-Allison of Supervisor Coonerty's office is working on Oct 24 resolution (on her day off!  Thank you.)

-People Power/Micah - has a fantastic idea for Oct 24, but I'll let him give it away (good for children, too)

Next:

-Will be working on teach-in ideas and asking for faculty:
  • If I can't afford a Prius and must drive,  what can I do?
  • Or is a refrigerator with no freezer is a good idea?
  • What are some "low-hanging fruit" around my house?
  • Teaching our children how to calculate CO2 emissions.

-Ask PG&E to bring a few energy efficient lightbulbs and give us all a few pointers

-Ask a few religious/community groups for their ideas.

  2. What can we do as volunteers? Who is organizing this? Is there a plan of action?

  3. I am trying to get the ball rolling, but there is no real organizer. (Jim)

In most cities, Oct 24 is a collection of independent events organized by various groups, churches, schools, etc. with the theme of Climate Action. Some cities are having a joint rally which I hope we can do here, too. Post all events on 350.org plus the facebook page.

Early next week, I expect the Board of Supervisors to issue a proclamation on Oct 24, so the day will be "official"

If you want to help, please ask a group you belong to organize an event on Oct 24, could be almost anything: potluck, religious service, demonstration of solar, teach-in about water or energy or 3 things everyone can do to reduce CO2. I like to also have activities for children since it is their future. Be nice to have some entertainment that day also, a band?

Please also help get the Facebook page going "350 Santa Cruz" and invite friends.

I will tweet/blog later today with more ideas.

    Thanks for offering.
